PCP Statement on Conflict Increasing in Eastern DRC

02/03/2025

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is facing heightened violence in the northeast regional capital of Goma, North Kivu, displacing over 500,000 people amid reports of gender-based violence and attacks on civilians and healthcare workers. Demonstrations outside foreign embassies in Kinshasa on January 28, 2025 turned violent, prompting the US State Department to issue a Level Four “Do Not Travel” advisory, urging US citizens to shelter in place and evacuate when safe.

Paul Carlson Partnership (PCP), Covenant World Relief & Development (CWRD), and Covenant Kids Congo (CKC) are in close contact with partners in DRC. The Covenant Church of Congo (CEUM), located in the northwest region, is not directly impacted by the violence but the evolving situation may impact upcoming travel to DRC. Despite uncertainties, PCP continues our vital work in healthcare, and economic and infrastructure development, addressing challenges as they arise and remaining faithful to our partners in ministry. These efforts are made possible solely through the generous support of donors, as PCP receives no federal or state funding.

In addition, for several years CWRD has partnered with an incredible organization in the DRC called AGIR-RDC. Based in the eastern city of Goma, AGIR is dedicated to empowering vulnerable individuals, equipping them to become changemakers in their communities. CWRD is actively responding with providing emergency aid, essential supplies, and critical support to those in need. We invite you to join us in prayer for peace, safety, and God’s guidance for all those affected.
